This is a traditional oatmeal cookie recipe which taste reasonably good and with a nice texture. Given the shortening and sugar content these get a low health rating so you might want to try out the other cookie recipes listed here instead.

3 cups rolled oats
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
¾ cup vegetable shortening
½ cup granulated sugar
1 egg
¼ cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 cup white flour
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon soda
Directions
Cream together shortening and sugars
Beat in egg, water and vanilla essence
Combine the oats, flour, flour and soda together and mix with the sugar-shortening mixture
Drop by rounded teaspoonsful onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 °F preheated oven for 12-15 minutes
